On 7th August 2010, on the occasion of friendship day and “Aati” we the members of Inner Wheel Club of Udupi had a get together. Each member prepared a Aati dishes and played the traditional Aati game “Chenna Mane”. Aati dishes were inaugurated by Nadavaibhavam Udupi Vasudeva Bhat and Aati game was inaugurated by Rtn. K. S. Subrahmanya Basri. Our member Vijayalaxmi Ballal spoke on the importance of Aati to our members. More than 40 people were participated.

The month of August is called as Aati Thingalu in the local language of Karavali. This is a month of heavy rains. Because of heavy rains we do not get any vegetables. Before, people used to eat only those food prepared from locally available vegetables (i.e. gadde genasu, and some kind of leafy vegetables).

We inner Wheel sisters celebrated Aatidonji Dina. Each member prepared the Aati Food at home and exchaged with all the Inner Wheel members on this occasion we also enjoyed by playing the traditional games like chennamane. This was celebrated to preserve and continue the tradition of our culture to our future generation.
